Lord Venkateshwara is a form of the Hindu god Vishnu. The temple of Venkateshwara (also called the Tirupati temple) is located in Tirumala at an altitude of 853 metres, in Tirupati district of the state of Andhra Pradesh in the Southeastern part of India.
Lord Venkateshwara is known by many names: Tirupati Balaji, Balaji, Srinivasa, Govindaraja and is considered to be an Avatar (incarnation) of Lord Maha Vishnu.
According to Hindu mythology, Lord Venkateshwara is believed to have appeared in the Kali Yuga to bestow blessings on humanity. The Seven Hills of Tirumala are considered sacred — each hill named after one of the hoods of the divine serpent Adishesha on which Lord Maha Vishnu rests.
The presiding deity at Tirumala is Sri Venkateswara Swamy, worshipped in the form of Swayambhu (self-manifested). The Supreme Lord is said to be fulfilling the wishes of all His devotees from this sacred hilltop.
Lord Venkateshwara is worshipped alongside His divine consorts Sri Devi (Goddess Lakshmi) and Bhu Devi (Goddess of Earth). Together they represent the complete divine trinity of wealth, prosperity, and cosmic sustenance.
The 108 names of Lord Venkateshwara — the Govinda Namalu — are chanted by devotees as a sacred prayer. Each name encapsulates a divine attribute of the Lord, bringing blessings and peace to all who recite them with devotion.
